(20 Dec 2016) German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other senior officials on Tuesday visited the scene of a deadly attack on a Berlin Christmas market and laid flowers at a makeshift shrine to the victims.
Merkel told reporters on Tuesday that it would be “particularly sickening” if it turns out the attacker was an asylum-seeker who sought refuge in Germany.
Twelve people were killed and scores of others injured when a truck crashed into a crowded Christmas market in the German capital late on Monday.
The head of Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office said he could not rule out that the suspects involved in the attack could still be at large.
